Cargo

Cargo is a comprehensive e-commerce addon for Statamic. It’s built for small to medium-sized businesses that want bespoke e-commerce sites, without the complexity and overhead of larger platforms.

Cargo behaves like a first-class citizen inside Statamic. You model your content how you want, and Cargo fits in around it.

Why Cargo exists

I started working on Simple Commerce in late 2019. At the time, Statamic 3 was still in private alpha. Simple Commerce began as a learning project, a way to understand how Statamic worked under the hood, and grew organically from there.

Over time though, it became harder to reason about and maintain. Core concepts like carts, orders, and customers could be stored in multiple ways: as entries, in the database, as entries backed by the database, or in the case of customers, as Statamic users.

That flexibility made behaviour difficult to predict, and eventually the majority of issues came down to subtle storage inconsistencies.

Cargo addresses this by reducing the number of moving parts and simplifying the core model, making things more consistent and reliable.

Pricing

Cargo costs $199 and includes 1 year of updates and developer support. After that, continued updates and support cost $85 per year.

Like Statamic, you don’t need to renew your licence to keep your site online — only when you want the latest updates and support.

Migrating from Simple Commerce

While I can't promise it'll be a 5-10 minute upgrade, migrating to Cargo should be fairly straightforward for most projects.

Cargo includes migration commands to automate most of the content and configuration changes. Any custom code will need to be updated manually.

If you want to upgrade to Statamic 6, but don't have the time to migrate to Cargo yet, Simple Commerce supports Statamic 6.
